„Off-road“ tour to the Ybytyruzú mountains

! A very special trip! Take a typical Paraguayan ride on an oxen drawn cart and see the Ybytyruzú mountains. See the rupestral (rock-engraved) paintings of Itá Letra, which remain undecipherable to present times. Ride an all terrain vehicle or a motorbike to the Akati Hill, the highest mountain in Paraguay. !Tour the City of Villarrica by riding on a horse-drawn carriage!

Day1 – Arrival and cross-country to Ita Letrá

The Ybytyruzú mountain range is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places in Paraguay, the panoramic vista from Colonia Independencia is quite captivating. The trip begins in Asuncion and in the afternoon the journey traverses through the countryside until arriving at the rupestral inscriptions of Ita Letra that to this day remain undecipherable. In the language of the Paraguayan aborigines, the Guarani, „Itá“ means „rock“, „Letra“ signifies „inscription“. It has never been quite clarified if the rupestral paintings were really made by the aborigines. There is some speculation that the mysterious inscriptions could have also been done either by Vikings or Phoenicians. Should this be true, it would be a world-level historical novelty, as it would mean that Christopher Columbus did not discover South America. Be it as it may, for some it may not be important whilst for others it would be quite a sensation. You’ll be your own judge when you see the place. .

Day 2 – Oxen drawn cart trip and cross-country towards Akati Hill.

This second day starts with a ride on a two oxen-pulled cart towards the mountain. Go back in time and live the experience of the local people who made their journeys on oxen pulled carts. In order to end this part of the excursion there will be a pick-nick at the foot of the mountain range. Next, there will be the ascent of the Akati Hill, which has a height of 800 metres above sea level and is the highest of the region. In some parts the ascent becomes somewhat difficult, even for an all-terrain vehicle, but once on the peak there awaits the visitor a most spectacular vista. One can also reach the peak by motorbike*, which, nevertheless requires being a talented and dextrous driver.

Day 3 – Horse-pulled carriage tour of Villarrica

In the morning a city tour riding in a horse-pulled carriage, also known as a „Carumbé“ that is often used as a taxi in the city. Villarrica (rich villa), founded by Franciscans in 1682, named the city in the belief that there were large gold and silver deposits in the vicinity. But none were ever found.
